Covering Scena Theatre: Press Photos for the Production of ‘The Night Alive’

Scena Theater (website/Facebook) is one of my favorite clients. Their productions are always incredibly well done and the people who are in and help run the shows are all really cool human beings. I’ve been blessed to work with them for their past seven productions (The Norwegians, Shining City, Handbag, Molly, The Cripple of Inishmaan, and The Importance of Being Earnest, and Antigone Now). Their current production, The Night Alive, is currently running atAtlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC and has amassed a large number […]

Sixth Annual Skate for Catherine!

Year SIX! Six years in a row! The Catherine Elizabeth Blair Memorial Fund is a local non-profit that is near and dear to my heart. Their mission is dedicated to raising funds for developing treatments for the childhood cancer neuroblastoma. Catherine was a patient at the pediatric cancer clinic where I worked – she was a great kid and her family is amazing. The foundation held its first “Skate for Catherine!” event on March 1st, 2012 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex […]

Izlem & Alejandro’s Civil Ceremony

Izlem and Alejandro contacted me to ask if I would be willing to be the photographer for their civil wedding. I was more than happy to accept – I have had a number of friends who, for their own (completely valid) reasons, skipped the big wedding ceremony and reception for the equally romantic civil wedding. Having shot civil weddings has shown me that the love between these couples is just as big as any other. The excitement is also still there – […]

Equality, Politics, Washington DC, Women's March

Women’s March 2017, Washington, D.C.

Regardless of your politics, you can’t deny the power of the worldwide marches held on January 21, 2017. Estimated attendance figures are over 2.9 million people, the largest in U.S. history, and I was lucky enough to have been able to join them. More incredible than the turnout was the mood of the march – one of positivity, unity, and peace. That’s democracy and free speech in action. These photos were shot with a Canon 5DIII and a Canon 24-70mm […]

Covering Scena Theatre: Press Photos for the Production of ‘Antigone Now’

Scena Theater (website/Facebook) is an awesome client and I always look forward to working with them again. Being a stage/theatre photographer can be tough – incredibly dynamic movements, expressions, and lighting changes – but Scena has always been amazing to work with. I’ve had the pleasure of covering their past six productions (The Norwegians, Shining City, Handbag, Molly, The Cripple of Inishmaan, and The Importance of Being Earnest) and recently did the photography for their newest production, Antigone Now at the Atlas Performing Arts Center […]

Mike + Laura’s Proposal Photoshoot – Tidal Basin, Washington, DC

I love being a proposal photographer and I have the best clients ever! Mike and Laura met in 2013 on a blind date set up via mutual friends. They’re awesome and you can definitely see the love between them. They’re really thoughtful, too – Laura spent months planning a huge event for Mike’s last birthday and he wanted to go just as big for his proposal to her. Mike contacted me over a month in advance to plan and coordinate […]

Kavi Workspace 2015 Annual User Group Conference

I recently had the pleasure of covering the Fourth Annual Kavi Workspace User Group Conference in Alexandria, Virginia. Kavi is a software company based in Portland, Oregon that gives its users a platform for collaborative team work, structured workflows, and secure participation. I was contacted by Mark Ace, president of Kavi, and asked to cover key moments in the meeting while also capturing candid moments from around the room. Working as an event photographer is always a lot of fun, and […]

Maxine + Mycal’s Maternity/Paternity Shoot – Arlington, Virginia

Okay, I hope I’m not alone in thinking that expecting dads joining their ladies in joint maternity/paternity shoots is awesome. It’s great seeing how invested these future fathers are, how excited everybody is, and how close these couples are. I’m all about gender equality and mixing up gender roles and this is a definite sign that things are trending towards cool things. I’ve known Maxine and Mycal for a long time. Maxine and I worked together at a pediatric hematology/oncology […]

Sara at Manassas National Battlefield Park

Sara is awesome in so many ways. She’s definitely one of my favorite repeat clients. She’s always peppy, puts a lot of thought and effort into her shoots, and is the sweetest girl ever. For this shoot we went to Manassas National Battlefield Park to take advantage of its beauty. There are woods, fields, streams, and great hiking and horseback riding paths throughout. It’s weird yet wonderful how a site that saw so much horror and bloodshed is now a vivacious […]
