Marisa and Geordi, Manassas National Battlefield Park

I went on a short walk at Manassas National Battlefield Park this weekend with Marisa and Geordi. The place was absolutely littered with photographers! We timed the trip nicely with the sun – there’s nothing better than natural light, especially during Autumn. All photographs were made with a Canon 5DII and the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L II lens at ISO400. Visit J.Yi Photography on Facebook!

Northern Virginia CureSearch Walk 2012

CureSearch is a  national non-profit organization supporting childhood cancer research, raising money to help fund the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a network of 200+ hospitals, universities, and cancer centers working together to reach a 100% cure rate for childhood cancer.  A few weeks ago I had the honor of covering the 3rd Annual Northern Virginia CureSearch Walk. Last year’s walk , which I also covered, raised over $80,000… this year’s walk raised over $125,000! Congratulations to everyone for a great walk! […]

Sheri Miller, With Hearts in Her Eyes

I recently coordinated a shoot with model Sheri Miller (MM# 2556797). We wanted to have an outdoor shoot to take full advantage of the unusually pleasant weather and decided on a light fashion/editorial concept. After drafting out a few shots and setting a date we went for it! You can click on any of the thumbnails for a larger version. All images were created with a Canon 5D mark II and a Canon 70-200 f/2.8L II lens. We were able […]

Jammin’ Java, May 8, 2012 – Norman Rockwell, Derek Evry, 4ontheFloor

I had the pleasure of shooting Norman Rockwell for their Jammin’ Java show with Derek Evry and the Minnesota band The 4ontheFloor. It was an awesome show, Norman Rockwell gets better and more polished with each show they play. Derek Evry’s set was great as well and the touring band from Minnesota closed the show with a colossal bang. I’m going to keep this one short, here are the photos (you can click each photo to enlarge), enjoy! Norman Rockwell […]

Norman Rockwell… Rocks Well

Last night I had the pleasure of covering Norman Rockwell‘s show at The State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia. One of the finest bands local to the Washington, D.C. area, the headliners were joined by fellow local acts The Independent and Mokey Doris. If you haven’t made it to a Norman Rockwell show yet… you really should. Click here for an epic gallery of Norman Rockwell from the show. I shot the show with my Canon 5D Mark II. While […]

Farewell, OV-103

Today was the final flight of Space Shuttle Discovery. Piggybacked (well… technically “mated” with o__o) on a modified Boeing 747, Discovery left Kennedy Space Center at daybreak and made a journey around D.C. before finally landing at Washington-Dulles International Airport. Discovery‘s final destination will be in the most excellent Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Center where it will replace the Space Shuttle Enterprise (which had actually never been in space… long story). I arrived at the Udvar-Hazy Center around 8:30 a.m. and joined […]

Introducing: Norman Rockwell

Norman Rockwell is a very talented local band that includes members frontman Joshua Johnston, lead guitarist/mandolin/fiddle/banjo/et. al player Ben Hirsch , bassist Sean Meyers, and drummer Nathan Read. If you have seen them play live you know the energy and charm they possess – if you haven’t then you should do yourself a favor and definitely check them out (show info on website and end of blog post). We shot this session outdoors to match the Americana sound and feel […]

“Skate for Catherine!” & Tips for Shooting Ice Skaters

The Catherine Elizabeth Blair Memorial Fund is a local non-profit dedicated to raising funds for developing treatments for the childhood cancer neuroblastoma. They have most recently awarded a grant to a program developing a new treatment for relapsed neuroblastoma, which sadly has no known cure. The foundation held a benefit event – “Skate for Catherine!” – on March 1st at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia. Catherine’s mother asked if I would be willing to cover the event and photograph […]

Northern Virginia CureSearch Walk 2011

A few weeks ago I was approached by members of the Northern Virginia CureSearch team and was asked to cover their 2011 CureSearch Walk in Fairfax Corner. Having participated in the walk the prior (and inaugural) year, I was more than happy to oblige and was honored to have been asked. CureSearch is a  national non-profit organization supporting childhood cancer research. The money raised by CureSearch is used to help fund the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), which is a network […]

Welcoming the Fall

The weather’s changin’ and the leaves will soon follow suit. Here are a few photos taken here and there to celebrate the coming change. Click on each for the larger version! This photograph was taken at  Maymont Park in Richmond, Virginia, though it seems as if it could have been taken from the other side of the globe. Maymont is a 100-acre property that is open to the public and is incredibly beautiful. There are multiple personalities to the property […]
