I recently had the pleasure of meeting and shooting model Vaei Visage (MM# 2347945). We met in Burke, Virginia and head out to shoot some images in natural light. Halfway through the shoot her nose started bleeding but we kind of just went with it. She’s an awesome person and a very cool friend. Images were captured with my Canon 5D III paired with either a 24-70 f/2.8LII or a 70-200 f/2.8LII. Visit J.Yi Photography on Facebook!
Claire and Eric are a couple of really cool cats. They found me via Reddit and asked if I would be their wedding photographer. I don’t do weddings very often due to my tight schedule but knew, after a little bit of correspondence, that they were an awesome couple. I was thrilled to be covering their special day. Their ceremony was held at Hunter House at Nottoway Park in Vienna, Virginia on a bright Autumn day. It was awesome – everyone was […]
Katie Rae is an aspiring model in Winchester, Virginia. She contacted me for a session to supplement her portfolio and we decided to meet in Leesburg, Virginia for her quick session. Model photographer mode is a lot of fun – lots of collaboration on outfit ideas, locations, and image style to get a set of images that fit the model’s look. We went for a natural light approach for this shoot, which was done with Canon 5D III with a 24-70 f/2.8LII or […]
The M Report is a monthly national print and online magazine that provides expert commentary, news, industry feedback, and cutting edge features for mortgage professionals in the United States. I had the pleasure of providing photography for their October 2015 cover story, Diversified We Stand, Divided We Fall. This assignment took me to Pennsylvania to photograph Vladimir Bien-Aime, CEO of Global DMS and Reston, Virginia to photograph Michael Ruiz, Director of Procurement at Fannie Mae. Each session was done on-site, with limited time […]
I got to shoot with model Dahlea Gray today in the awesome town of Front Royal, Virginia. Pin-up was an inspiration but we kept ourselves open to other ideas. All images were captured with my Canon 5D III paired with either a 24-70 f/2.8LII or a 70-200 f/2.8LII in natural light. Visit J.Yi Photography on Facebook!
Woot, another proposal photoshoot! Cody found me via Reddit and asked if I would be the photographer to cover his proposal to now-fiancee, Amanda. Proposal photoshoots are challenging and incredibly dynamic, but very rewarding. There is no guarantee that light, location, or weather will cooperate, there’s no way to pose anything, and there’s only one chance to nail it! All that, and I have to blend into the environment with my gigantic camera to not give myself away! The proposal was to take […]
Bryanna Millis is an award-winning poet and mixed media artist who resides in Washington, DC. She recently contacted me to photograph a number of her pieces to display on her website, www.BryannaMillis.com. I used studio lighting to capture the incredible detail of her work, which was done on muslin and paper products. The strobes I used were Alienbees 1600s, triggered with PocketWizard Plus III Transceivers. I shot with a Canon 5DIII and a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8LII. Below are a number of our […]
Guido and Gulnura contacted me for an engagement session with a bit of a twist. The two met overseas at a US embassy, fell in love, and became engaged. They were both in town for now but were going to be separated into different countries for work and needed their session, retouching, and prints delivered within a few days! Never one to step down from a challenge, I accepted, we made plans, and we made these beautiful images. I pride […]
Scena Theater (website/Facebook/tickets) is one of my favorite clients. I’ve had the pleasure of covering their past three productions (The Norwegians, Shining City and Handbag) and recently covered their newest, a wildly funny genderbent take on Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. Directed by Robert McNamara and featuring two time Helen Hayes Award winner Nanna Ingvarsson, Brian Hemmingsen (Helen Hayes Award nominee, twice), Danielle Davy, Bob Sheire, Graham Pilato, David Bryan Jackson, Ellie Nicoll, Amie Cazel, and Mary Suib, The Importance of Being Earnest definitely should […]
Anne and Patrick contacted me a few months ago regarding a photoshoot for their first pregnancy, which we did last week in Anne’s ninth month! I’ve known them both for ages – Anne and I worked together at a pediatric hematology/oncology clinic and they’re great people. The shoot was sort of last minute, but we pulled it off. Baby Maggie was due on Friday, we shot at Bon Air Park in Arlington, Virginia the Monday before, and I was able to […]
