Sixth Annual Skate for Catherine!

Year SIX! Six years in a row! The Catherine Elizabeth Blair Memorial Fund is a local non-profit that is near and dear to my heart. Their mission is dedicated to raising funds for developing treatments for the childhood cancer neuroblastoma. Catherine was a patient at the pediatric cancer clinic where I worked – she was a great kid and her family is amazing. The foundation held its first “Skate for Catherine!” event on March 1st, 2012 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex […]

Anne + Patrick’s Maternity/Paternity Shoot – Arlington, Virginia

Anne and Patrick contacted me a few months ago regarding a photoshoot for their first pregnancy, which we did last week in Anne’s ninth month! I’ve known them both for ages – Anne and I worked together at a pediatric hematology/oncology clinic and they’re great people. The shoot was sort of last minute, but we pulled it off. Baby Maggie was due on Friday, we shot at Bon Air Park in Arlington, Virginia the Monday before, and I was able to […]

Love Wins!

Today is a great day in American history. Today , June 26th, 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges that “The Fourteenth Amendment requires a State to license a marriage between two people of the same sex and to recognize a marriage between two people of the same sex when their marriage was lawfully licensed and performed out-of-State.” Today, LGBTQ citizens and their allies (which yes, includes me!) celebrate what they’ve already known: that all Americans have […]

Fourth Annual Skate for Catherine – Promotional Video and Photo Recap

Year four! The Catherine Elizabeth Blair Memorial Fund is a local non-profit dedicated to raising funds for developing treatments for the childhood cancer neuroblastoma. The foundation held its first “Skate for Catherine!” event on March 1st, 2012 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia (blog entry here) and has held the event every March. We did more promotion of the event this year, including a few promotional videos. Here’s one from the foundation’s Youtube channel: This year’s event had over 400 […]

Vaughn and Alex’s Proposal – Lincoln Memorial, Washington, DC

Vaughn contacted a few weeks ago via Reddit and asked if I would cover his proposal photos at the Lincoln Memorial. Yes. Heck yes. Proposal photoshoots are crazy and fun and pretty much the best things ever. No matter how well planned a proposal is, it can really go either way. Doing it at a monument kind of ramps that up! Lots of foot traffic, really crowded. There is no guarantee that light, location, weather, or tourists will cooperate. There’s literally no […]

Against Me! at the 9:30 Club

Against Me! is awesome and their latest album Transgender Dysphoria Blues (Amazon Link), is just as great. This is their first album since Laura Jane Grace’s public coming out as transgender and you can hear a myriad of conflicting emotions as the album plays. I saw Against Me! this past May at Rams Head Live and it was probably the best show I have ever been to. The energy of the band and the crowd was celebratory, explosive, and entirely infectious. The bumps and […]

2014 Growing Hope Picnic

Growing Hope is a local 501(c)(3) charity that “provides supportive, non-medical care to children with cancer and their families.” I have personally seen this organization in action and they are great people who really care. Every year they throw a picnic at Nottoway Park in Vienna, Virginia for pediatric cancer patients, their families, and the staff that takes care of them to enjoy time together outside of the clinical setting. These are just a few images from this year’s picnic. It’s […]

Leap of Faith

Oh snap, real talk. I know I’ve been under the radar for the past few months, I’d like to make a small announcement. Today I finished my last full work week at Children’s National. I presented my two week notice last Wednesday and my last day of employment be this coming Wednesday, February 5th. I have worked at Children’s for a touch over five years.   I have decided to take a chance on myself. I am taking the leap […]

These Songs Are For You – Celebrating The Life of Sean Albert Meyers Part II @ Jammin’ Java – July 27th

The last entry I posted covered the first night of a two-day memorial event for Sean Meyers. Sean was the awesome amazing bassist for local band Norman Rockwell, super great open mic host, and all-around good guy. This extra short entry is for night two. Enjoy! Here is the link to the Facebook Gallery (low quality image).

These Songs Are For You – Celebrating The Life of Sean Albert Meyers Part I @ Jammin’ Java – July 26th

This past weekend I had the great opportunity of covering a two-day memorial event at Jammin’ Java. “These Songs For You – Celebrating The Life of Sean Albert Meyers” was a follow up show thought up of by Normal Rockwell drummer (and all around great guy) Nate Read. You may remember that I shot the State Theatre show in Sean’s honor earlier in February. The idea behind this two-part show was to have musicians who knew Sean cover a number of his […]
