Cody and Amanda’s Proposal Photoshoot – DC War Memorial, Washington, DC

Woot, another proposal photoshoot! Cody found me via Reddit and asked if I would be the photographer to cover his proposal to now-fiancee, Amanda. Proposal photoshoots are challenging and incredibly dynamic, but very rewarding. There is no guarantee that light, location, or weather will cooperate, there’s no way to pose anything, and there’s only one chance to nail it! All that, and I have to blend into the environment with my gigantic camera to not give myself away! The proposal was to take […]

Guido + Gulnura – Arlington, Virginia

Guido and Gulnura contacted me for an engagement session with a bit of a twist. The two met overseas at a US embassy, fell in love, and became engaged. They were both in town for now but were going to be separated into different countries for work and needed their session, retouching, and prints delivered within a few days! Never one to step down from a challenge, I accepted, we made plans, and we made these beautiful images. I pride […]

Scena Theatre Play Photographer DC Virginia

Covering Scena Theatre: Press Photos for the Production of ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’.

Scena Theater (website/Facebook/tickets) is one of my favorite clients. I’ve had the pleasure of covering their past three productions (The Norwegians, Shining City and Handbag) and recently covered their newest, a wildly funny genderbent take on Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. Directed by Robert McNamara and featuring two time Helen Hayes Award winner Nanna Ingvarsson, Brian Hemmingsen (Helen Hayes Award nominee, twice), Danielle Davy, Bob Sheire, Graham Pilato, David Bryan Jackson, Ellie Nicoll, Amie Cazel, and Mary Suib, The Importance of Being Earnest definitely should […]

Anne + Patrick’s Maternity/Paternity Shoot – Arlington, Virginia

Anne and Patrick contacted me a few months ago regarding a photoshoot for their first pregnancy, which we did last week in Anne’s ninth month! I’ve known them both for ages – Anne and I worked together at a pediatric hematology/oncology clinic and they’re great people. The shoot was sort of last minute, but we pulled it off. Baby Maggie was due on Friday, we shot at Bon Air Park in Arlington, Virginia the Monday before, and I was able to […]

Jerome + Mariah

Jerome + Mariah – Woodbridge, Virginia

I got a phone call from Jerome a few weeks back about setting up an outdoor couple’s session for him and his girlfriend Mariah. I love natural light photography and I love doing couple’s sessions so the answer was an obvious yes. The location for the shoot was Belmont Bay in Woodbridge, Virginia. We agreed that shooting during golden hour (a.k.a. magic hour), which is the hour after sunrise or the hour before sunset, would be best… even though it […]

Fourth Annual Skate for Catherine – Promotional Video and Photo Recap

Year four! The Catherine Elizabeth Blair Memorial Fund is a local non-profit dedicated to raising funds for developing treatments for the childhood cancer neuroblastoma. The foundation held its first “Skate for Catherine!” event on March 1st, 2012 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia (blog entry here) and has held the event every March. We did more promotion of the event this year, including a few promotional videos. Here’s one from the foundation’s Youtube channel: This year’s event had over 400 […]

Corey + Kelly’s Engagement Shoot

I’ve known Corey + Kelly for over a year now, we’re all members of the Northern Virginia Facial Hair Club, a local non-profit that raises money for charity and thinks that facial hair is cool (no beard needed to join!). They’re cool people and we were all overjoyed when they got engaged. 🙂 They asked me to be their engagement photographer, to which I totally said yes! Even better, they brought their dog Velvet along! Attached are a handful of […]

Anthony and Sarah’s Proposal Photoshoot – DC War Memorial, Washington, DC

This past week I was contacted via Reddit by Anthony. Anthony was planning to propose to his girlfriend Sarah and was looking for a photographer who would be able to cover the event. As we discussed the details it became clear that Anthony had planned out the entire night and that this assignment would be a bit difficult but very rewarding. A proposal photoshoot has a number of difficulties – the whole thing, no matter how well planned, is a […]

Sugar Blossom Cosplay as Black Cat

Sugar Blossom is a cosplayer in the Washington, D.C. area. She contacted me to do a shoot as Marvel’s Black Cat, a former burglar turned detective/super-hero (and dated Spider-Man for a period of time!). Though Sugar Blossom wanted the shoot to showcase Black Cat’s sexiness, shooting the character is kind of tricky – Black Cat is often hyper-sexualized with revealing outfits and incredibly seductive posing. We went with poses that were a bit more tame than how she is usually depicted and […]

The MetroTones and the Infinite Cheesiness.

The MetroTones are a top 40 cover band based in the Washington, D.C. area. Rebecca, Ryan, Paul, and John cover a really broad range of music with songs by the Beastie Boys, No Doubt, Prince, The Clash, 50 Cent, and more. They will be playing the NOVABrewFest in Loudoun this year and list their shows on their Facebook. Check them out! I shot the MetroTones yesterday to create a few promo photos. They had a very specific theme in mind – […]
