Scena Theater (website/Facebook) is an awesome client and I always look forward to working with them again. Being a stage/theatre photographer can be tough – incredibly dynamic movements, expressions, and lighting changes – but Scena has always been amazing to work with. I’ve had the pleasure of covering their past six productions (The Norwegians, Shining City, Handbag, Molly, The Cripple of Inishmaan, and The Importance of Being Earnest) and recently did the photography for their newest production, Antigone Now at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC.

Antigone Now is a play by internationally-acclaimed Slovenian playwright Evald Flisar. It is a modern day adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone, with changes that make the work its own and that highlight issues that most people can relate to today. It is directed by Robert McNamara and features Brian Hemmingsen, Stas Wronka, Bob Sheire, Joe Palka, Danielle Davy, Ron Litman, Matt Dougherty, Kim Curtis, Joseph Carlson, Amanda Forstrom, and Colin Davies. The crew, who did an amazing job, include Lena Salins (Production Manager), Michael Stepowany (Set Design), Dean Leong (Tech Director), Marianne Meadows (Lighting Design), Denise Rose (Sound Design), Anne Nottage (Assistant Director), and Natalie Nichols (Stage Manager).
Scena is doing a short run of this production in the US (March 26th – April 2nd) and will be taking the production to Europe! They will be playing in Slovenia, Italy, and Austria. In Slovenia, they will take part in the Week of Slovenian Drama, an annual theatre festival that began in 1971. Scena will be the first US company to be invited to play in the festival’s 45 year history. Wow.
