The Sean Meyers Memorial Extravaganza: The Family Plots

This past Friday I had the pleasure of watching some of my amazing friends perform at The State Theatre in Falls Church in memory of an amazing guy, Sean Meyers. Sean was the bassist of one of the performing bands, Norman Rockwell. I knew Sean originally from the Soundry in Vienna, Virginia – he hosted a great open mic there for years before it migrated to Epicure Cafe in Fairfax after the Soundry sadly closed its doors.

Sean was an amazing and very caring person – seeing so many people there in support of his family and his memory was incredibly warming. Ticket proceeds went to benefit his family, helping to cover his medical bills and funeral cost. I think the main benefit was bringing the community he helped build together to have a good time with friends, a bit of booze, and great music.

The Family Plots was one of the bands formed within connections made in the open mic. The thoughtful melody and harmonies of frontman John Sfara, bassist James Colvin, vocalist Emily Toler, guitarist Cyd Birch, drummer Matt Fusiek, and cellist Frances Derge opened the night with a set full of emotion and dynamic. I would highly recommend seeing them live.
